In our society women are not often seen as leaders. Men are the ones who are in power in our government and that stereotypical norm is what the media shoves in society’s face constantly. When we see a women taking charge and being an effective leader, it has to be attributed to something that is wrong with them because women are not seen as leaders naturally. Men who are bossy are seen as powerful and positively controlling. When women are bossy people call them a bitch, they could say the exact same thing as a man, but a woman is not allowed to take charge and behave in a similar manner as men. These social normal also play into vertical hostility. Men do not want to be seen as less than or weaker than women so when women try to get ahead, they are met with criticism and people make up excuses for how they got into their position other than putting in hard work and dedication. When TV shows magnetize a female character’s flaws, they are keeping women in their place below the men. Of course Jackie could not just be good at her job because she is intelligent and hard working, she is only good at her job because she is addicted to drugs.
