Buckley also creates a lot of political controversy surrounding his views on religion. Buckley believes that Christianity has been neglected by Yale. Buckley even boldly claims that there has been a “failure to Christianize Yale” (Buckley, 2002). There has been much back lash and agreement with Buckleys idea to go away from secularism and towards Christianity in schools. One group called The Christian Educators Association International is working to show Christian teachers how to live their faith — and evangelize in public schools” (Brown, 2016,). This group supports Buckleys ideas and agrees that it would be beneficial to bring Christianity to school. Daniel Mach is apart of the American Civil Liberties Union and he disagrees with the views of The Christian Educators Association International. He believes that this group is “encouraging teachers to cross the line” (News, 2016). Mach would go against Buckley's ideas of having schools, like Yale, be Christianized. Buckley’s ideas of having Christianity in schools also shows that he believes scholar citizens should be religious. Buckley believes that religion is an important part of education and it should be in school. This is why Buckley wants Yale to be Christianized. The books God and Man at Yale by William F. Buckley and Children of the Alley by Naguib Mahfouz are in ways both similar are different.
