In this piece “I Stand Here Writing", I feel that Sommers had several purposes for writing this strong academic piece. I feel she wrote this academic piece to provide readers with her personal experiences. She does this by describing and translating passages in the academic piece that tell about different scenarios in her life. She describes her parents and their lifestyle. I believe Sommers does this to show readers the way she was brought up. Through the academic piece, Sommers continues going back and revisiting different parts of her life and show how her struggles have made her into the woman she is today. Sommers also talks about how we find our voice through our personal stories. She does by giving us readers another visit to her childhood.
