This fits with the metaphor of a blank canvas because before you begin painting you think about what you’re going to create and if it’s going to tell a story. Haas and Flower state “Comments coded as content strategies are concerned with content or topic information…The reader may be questioning, interpreting, or summing content, and paraphrasing” (175). The authors illustrates that content is the most basic type of reading and includes locating the topics of the piece. A blank canvas has so many possibilities just like a content reader. The type of readers are content, functional/feature, and rhetorical. It’s very important to consider every aspect when reading so you can truly get the interpretation of the essay. Haas and Flowers types of readers can be compared to Lakoff and Johnsons idea of everything can become a metaphor. I was able to turn each type of reader into a metaphor. Content readers could be a blank canvas. Functional/feature readers can see reading as an art museum. Rhetorical readers may see reading as a photograph. After reading these essays I have a different perspective when it comes to different reading
