Salva went through so much throughout his life one major issue being war. “CRACK! POP-POP-CRACK! ACK-ACK-ACK-ACK-ACK-ACK! Gunfire!”(5). As this was happening the teacher was telling them all to get down and got to the bush. When they went to the bush all Salva could think about was finding his family. Most men with guns are either rebels or from war. While Salva and Uncle were going through the desert the bumped into men with guns. When he got to his last refugee camp in 1992-1996. The most important part of the last refugee camp is that they picked him and over a thousand boys to New York. “There it was. Salva Dut-Rochester, New York. Salva was going to New York. He was going to America!”(89). Going to New York will save a bunch of people from wars and so much more. The only problem with him going to New York he is going to have to relearn everything in a new way. “It’s winter in America,” “Winter?” “Yes, Very cold. You will be given more clothes in New York.” “ More clothes? Salva shook his head. How can I possibly wear any more clothes?”(92). He knew nothing about snow or any of the other seasons or climates, He only new southern sudan weather. He learned to do everything at his own pace. “One problem at a time-just figure out this one problem”(110). Salva learned how to do everything by himself at his own speed so he took a little bit to learn it
