We learn that Victor was embarrassed and mad at himself that he didn’t even dare to glance at Teresa. On page 4 it says, “Victor was too weak from failure to join the class”, then later the text states on page 5, “Victor couldn’t stand to look at Teresa. They are supposed to get married and Victor refers to Elizabeth as a mother which could make him feel uncomfortable. He was too focused on his goal and not relationships even though they are planning to get married. He could also be scared because of his dream of Elizabeth which he describes as “I was disturbed by the wildest dreams. I thought I saw Elizabeth, in the bloom of health, walking in the streets of Ingolstadt. Delighted and surprised, I embraced her, but as I imprinted the first kiss on her lips, they became livid with the hue of death, her features appeared to change, and I thought that I held the corpse of my dead mother in my arms, a shroud enveloped her form, and I saw the grave-worms crawling in…

As Victor states on page 40, “I need not describe the feelings of those whose dearest ties are rent by that most irreparable evil, the void that presents itself to the soul, and the despair that is exhibited on the countenance.” Victor’s focus after the event is on the rending of his dearest ties- the upset of his life and the lack of ability to change it. After this traumatic event, Victor falls down a path of emotional detachment and despair- and thus the cruelties of life in turn inspire him to perform his own acts of cruelty. Another act of cruelty that influenced Victor’s ideas and actions was during his studies at the University. This is most concisely expressed by this quote by Mr. Krempe on page 43, “ ‘Every minute,’ continued M. Krempe with warmth, ‘every instant that you have wasted on those books is utterly and entirely lost.…

In “Against School,” John Gatto argues that the main purpose of public schools and the educational system in general is to produce a “manageable” populace. Gatto argues that the current educational system does this by slowly acclimating students into certain habits, confirming students to certain rules, and implementing a certain mindset into students that makes them respond well to authority. All of these things that Gatto argues adds up to make a system for training a complaint workforce. Firstly, schools achieve what Gatto states their purpose is by acclimating students to how factories are organized and what working in a factory is like. Secondary, schools also accomplish Gattos argument by restricting the class choices of students and…

I have expressed my belief of this throughout the essay. After the death of Elizabeth, which the passage refers to, Victor feels isolated (Shelly 166). But he also isolated people in his life many times before that, including his family, the creature, and Elizabeth. We can tell by the way the passage was written that the creature has gotten his revenge, which was to make Victor as isolated as himself. We can also guess that Victor is very sad and regrets the time he did not spend with Elizabeth.…
