To start off, this scene shows Michael as his character changes from the outsider of the family to the leader. The scene begins outside of the hospital, with the setting of the scene is Christmas time, which is the time of the birth of Jesus, in terms of The Godfather, it is the time of the rebirth of the next Godfather, who is Michael. When Michael walks into Vito’s hospital room, the camera shows that Vito was placed into room number two. This is a symbolic meaning that Michael will be the second Godfather of the Corleone Family. He walks through the hospital and he’s aware of the situation that people left the hospital unexpectedly. There is only one nurse in the hospital. Michael shows his leadership by convincing the her to move his father to another room which displays Michael’s rise to power in the situation. As the scene continues Michael shows his love for his father when he says, “I’m with you now”. This shows that he is joining his family in the mob life and proves to have the confidence and knowledge to be the next leader the Corleone Family. When standing outside of the hospital with Enzo, he creates a plan of protection for Vito. The scene focuses in out Enzo’s as hands as he shakes while trying to light his cigarette. To begin, the Baptism scene shows Michael as his character has hit his weak moment and falls as a character in the film. Although the audience sees him rising into becoming the next Godfather, they see him fall in this scene as he uses his power to hurt others. The scene begins with the Corleone family at Connie’s baby’s baptism. In the background, there is an organ playing music. It is a simple sound with only one cord of the organ playing. The camera then uses the technique of parallel editing to show the each man of the five families. As the scene continues the Connie’s baby and Michael are baptised and are being reborn. They are being protected, in terms of the Godfather, MIchael is being reborn into the Mob. The scene then cuts to the men of the five families again and we hear the organ increase in sound as several cords are played. As this happens, the audience sees all of the five men being shot through glass, showing their separation. This scene shows MIchael’s falling as he agrees to renounce Satan, but has his men kill the leaders. In conclusion, the Baptism Scene shows MIchael falling as he murders the men of the other
