Finding voice is a very difficult thing to do, and it needs to be practiced and studied. Often what limits one’s voice are other people and the societal expectations of the time. For example, in the essay “Good Readers and Good Writers” by Vladimir Nabokov, leaves the readers with an overall message of how one should ignore the criticisms of their work and try a new approach by finding different critics that will actually appreciate their work. This is a good step to take in finding a person’s voice because others should not be given the power to limit individual’s opinions on certain situations. On the other hand, in certain situations limitations cannot be removed, which was proved in Virginia Woolf’s book excerpt “In search of a Room of One’s Own” because it broke past the fictional predisposition of how women were idealized in the 16th century by identifying the truth behind the inequality women faced, which led to their lack of expression in society. Woolf highlights the fact that there were no stories or books written by women in the 1600s, and that even the stories about women were all written by men.
