The main reason for this negativity comes from the direct result of the language barrier and culture clash in the given situation. It is known that the Hmong practice medicine in a very different way than an average American citizen, which leads to the problems the Lee family face at the hospital. In the story, it is believed by some of the American doctors that the Hmong are difficult to work with and often fight what the doctors feel is right.
