According to a book from 2006, Egyptian Religion centered around the Pharaoh. One thing the Pharaoh did for the religion, is ensure that all gods received proper respect at their temples. Egyptians, like the Chinese we’re learning about, believed in the afterlife. And some of the pyramids that were built by the Egyptians, including the Great Pyramids, are burial sites for the Pharaohs. Priests in the Egyptian social structure, were fairly high up. The pharaoh was considered the highest ranked priest of all. The next highest priest oversaw religious ceremonies. Other priests did more common things like giving advice to people and performing healings. Every temple was home to at least one god, and it was the temple priest’s job to take care of the gods at his, or her, temple. The god was thought to live in its statue, that statue was in a sanctuary which only a purified priest could enter. A priest had to do lots of things to be considered clean.
