In 1897 Carnegie bought a castle in Scotland which he paid about $10,000,000 for renovations (Doc 1). Since he only had a daughter very late in his life. There would have been no reason to have gotten a castle for just him his wife and his daughter. "Why should men leave great fortunes to their children? If this is done from affection, is this not misguided affection?" (Doc 8). This document was written by Andrew Carnegie himself where he explained what he would do with his money being a rich businessman. He says he would not leave anything for his descendants which would make the castle Carnegie bought a waste of his money. Andrew Carnegie would seem as though he is only giving to those he cares about since he was born in Scotland. Where he could have instead given to everyone equally or those more in need like the workers. The selling cost of his steel was always a few dollars more than what he paid to produce the steel (Doc 4). The profit he made could have been given to better wages for his workers. Andrew Carnegie has also said that only the best will accomplish and survive in the world (Doc 2). The document is another part that goes with document 8 which is written by Andrew Carnegie himself.
