"All animals are equal, but some are more equal than others," is one of the altered commandments of the seven displayed on the side of the barn in the allegorical novella Animal Farm. The author of this piece, Eric Blair, known as George Orwell, has portrayed the Russian Revolution by representing each of the main subjects during the time period with animals on a farm. The farm, previously owned by an ignorant farmer by the name of Mr. Jones, was in terrible health , with most animals dying of starvation. Later on, the pigs on the farm step forward and lead a Rebellion against the humans that own the farm. Being the head of Animal Farm, Napoleon acquires power from his fellow "comrades" on the farm mainly by running another pig named Snowball off the farm. Snowball is a kind hearted and friendly pig who was Napoleon's only competition. Both the pigs thought differently on the farm, therefore, leading to numerous conflicts. This is why Napoleon drives Snowball off of the farm, so he can get rid of one of the problems standing in his way of become a dominating tyrant. Once Snowball was no longer to be seen trotting along the farm fence, racing away from the dogs sent by Napoleon to attack him, Napoleon assures the animals that life would be better on the farm and starts to maintain his power, since Snowball was the main conflict according to Napoleon. Napoleon maintains his power by having Squealer manipulate the animals to think that it is better now. Also, he frequently uses the fear tactic of Mr. Jones coming back, which arouses fear within the animals and all around the farm, making it seem like whatever he is doing is going to benefit the animals when in reality, it is only going to benefit him.
