Animal Farm: The Russian Revolution Of 1917

The plot of Animal Farm is closely linked to the Russian Revolution of 1917. It started off with good intentions of trying to get the animals better living conditions for a situation where the animals themselves are exploited by the very animals whose ‘duty’ was to protect and care for them.

Before the animals had any power at all, they were all living in constant fear of Farmer Jones as he was abusive and did not care about the wellbeing of the animals in his farm. The old Major provides the inspiration that fuels the Rebellion in the book. As soon as the Major dies, the animals were led towards planning and executing the Rebellion. He secretly modified the Seven Commandments, he lived in a human’s house, but also deprived the rights of other animals. For instance, only pigs are allowed to drink milk, eggs according to him do not belong to hens; he became the dictator of animal farm this socialistic society. It comprises of a typical cynical young man, to the revolutionary insurgent, to the powerful organizer, and finally to a dictator. “Throughout the spring and summer they worked a sixty-hour week, and in August Napoleon announced that there would be work on Sunday afternoons as well. This work was strictly voluntary, but any animal who absented himself from it would have his rations reduced by half.” (Chapter5 Paragraph2:1-2) Napoleon alluding to the phenomena of power substitution in Human history. “When he did emerge, it was in a ceremonial manner, with an escort of six dogs who closely surrounded him and growled if anyone came too near. Frequently he did not even appear on Sunday mornings, but issued his orders through one of the other pigs, usually Squealer.” (Chapter7 …show more content…
He didn’t approve the ‘fact’, he’s skeptical, and he knows the truth clearly, but he does not want to involve himself in the wrongdoings of Napoleon. “A few days later, when the terror caused by the executions had died down, some of the animals remembered– or thought they remembered– that the Sixth Commandment decreed "No animal shall kill any other animal." And though no one cared to mention it in the hearing of the pigs or the dogs, it was felt that the killings which had taken place did not square with this. Clover asked Benjamin to read her the Sixth Commandment, and when Benjamin, as usual, said that he refused to meddle in such matters, she fetched Muriel.” (Chapter8 Paragraph1:1-3) Benjamin was also a victim of animal farm revolution.

Napoleon and Snowball were insinuating two Soviet political leaders - Stalin and Molotov. Stalin is very smart on politics, he has a lot of shenanigans and he is capable of leading people, he is qualified as a leader. However, the existence of excessive centralization on the economy, culture and foreign relations institution during the time of Stalin, especially the political system, which made the Soviet socialist system possess a strong military feudal
