Animal Testing in the United States Every day animals are being used for scientific research either leaving them mutated or dead. Imagine your dog being taken into the lab for various cruel experiments that lasts for weeks. After being tested on multiple times your dog can’t take it anymore and ends up dying. Does that seem right for any animal to go through pain, and potentially risk their lives for research? “Each year in the United States an estimated 20-70 million animals—from cats, dogs, rabbits, rats, and mice suffer and end up dying in the name of research” (Congress). One side agrees that research is more important, and the testing being done is safe for animals. The opposing side feels that animal testing should be stopped, for no animal should have to suffer. We live in a country with advanced technology, now allowing us to conduct research without the use of animals because of how inhumane and unjust it has become. …show more content…
According to the Humane Society, “Animals being used in experiments are subjected to food and water deprivation, long periods of physical movement restraint, and burns along with other wounds to study the healing process” (Costa). These are crucial points to ban animal testing. When you take animals and conduct experiments on them it affects them deeply. “The Draize Eye Test is used by cosmetic companies to study irritation caused by shampoos and other products, involves rabbits being held in stocks with their eyelids held open by clips, sometimes for multiple days, so they cannot blink away the products being tested” (Costa). Everyday millions of animals go through these cruel measures to allegedly ensure safety of products for

These tests included 1,395 primates, 5,996 rabbits, 33,652 guinea pigs, and 48,015 hamsters (Animal Testing Pro & Con.) Animal testing is cruel and inhumane. These animals are subjected to forced feeding, forced inhalation, food and water deprivation, prolonged periods of physical restraint, infliction of burns and wounds to study the healing process and effects and remedies. Among the cruelest experiments is the Draize eye test which evaluates irritation by shampoos and other products to the eyes. During this experiment rabbits are restrained and their eyelids are held open by clips for multiple days which leads to the death of 50% of rabbits used (Scientific American, "Do Cosmetic Companies Still Test on Live Animals?," scientificamerican.com). We also are very different from animals; having different metabolic, anatomical, and cellular differences.…

Animal testing has now moved to the point where researchers can’t even put the animals to sleep anymore because they cause them so much pain. This especially true for the animals that have to suffer severe diseases because they suffer so much. “Many experiments caused pain. Until the late 1840ś, researchers used no anesthetics (drugs that numb the body or bring on sleep). So animals that had been infected with a disease or that had been operated on suffered greatly” (Geraldine Woods).…

Why Animal Testing Should Be Banned Everyday innocent animals are being forced into labs and tested for human research advancement. Cruelty Free International states how approximately 115 million animals, including rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters, rats, mice, dogs and monkeys are used in dangerous laboratory experiments every year. In fact, many of the experiments are said to be useless tests, as stated, “The reality is that the majority of animal experiments do not contribute to improving human health, and the value of the role that animal experimentation plays in most medical advances is questionable” (“Animal Testing is Bad Science”). Misconceptions by the media may stretch the idea how animal testing can cure diseases, illnesses etc.. But actually, as emphasized, animal testing is an inefficient way of finding medical advances, making the procedures to be unnecessary and making there be no reason to force animals into labs without a choice, it's blatantly a waste of animals lives.…
