People enjoy good entertainment, especially when it comes to animals being involved. Not only can they be used for satisfying the public, but they can also be useful to human resources, such as to the blind, deaf, or disabled. If animals can be used properly in positive ways then why are people abusing and neglecting them? Animals deserve to have the same rights as humans. One way animals are taken advantage of is by experimentation. Many different experiments are done all over the world that use animals as victims in scientists’ research. "Morphine calms people but excites cats, goats, and horses" (O’Neill, pg 49). This shows that not all products that are tested on animals can be judged on the research because …show more content…
Since many laboratories are mainly legal, why are they kept locked away from the public? Are they trying to hide something? “More than 65,000 dogs, including thousands of homeless animals from shelters, are tormented in U.S. laboratories every year” (PETA, article 1). Many dogs lives’ are being taken from them just from the results of experimenting because their bodies aren’t used to so many drugs and chemicals being inserted inside of them. "Of twenty-five drugs found useful in treating stroke in animals over the past ten years, not one has proved effective in clinical practice" (O’Neill, pg 28). Bodies are being wasted for no reason and yet scientists are still deciding to go through with taking innocent lives. More negatives come from those labs than the positives do. As PETA states, “Many animals are locked inside barren cages across the country while they languish in pain, suffer from extreme frustration, ache with loneliness, and long to be free” (article 5). That’s not the kind of life an animal wants to be living. "In 1999 animal rights activists sat with greyhound dogs on the steps of the statehouse in Boston to support a bill to ban greyhound racing in Massachusetts" (O’Neill, pg 12). Not everyone supports making money off of animal racing or fighting. This is an example of people calmly wanting an act change in a way that doesn't contain …show more content…
Dog fighting is a huge in the United States. Dog fighting is where people sign their dogs up to fight other dogs. The dogs are trained to fight or attack any other animal they see in order to tear their opponents apart or even kill them. Mainly pitbulls are used for these events because of their strength and sharp claws and teeth. In other scenarios the form abuse could just be dropping an animal off in the street, also known as neglect. Little things you may notice such as seeing the rib cages of animals through the skin could just be the start of an animal being abused or neglected. Hair loss and other diseases of the skin and eyes are other similar signs (Fighting Animal Abuse and Neglect pg 22). Not only can animals be a threat to other animals, they can also endanger humans as well. "An abused animal can turn on a human in an instant, so children and innocent bystanders can be attacked by an animal if it feels threatened. When abused, animals are not the only ones in danger” (Fighting Animal Abuse and Neglect pg 22). Different organizations are willing to help and support animals rather than only angry protesters. With the help of worldwide organizations it is easier to spread the word when in need of help from the citizens. People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) and The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) are examples of organizations that raise awareness for
