Patty’s diagnosis of bipolar disorder is a biological dimension, but it affects her cognitions and emotions which is a psychological dimension. Cognitions are defined as “thoughts; the mental activities of which we are aware or can become aware with probing” (Morton, 2016). Patty’s thought process was affected at a young age while under the care of the Ross family. They controlled every aspect of her, even her thoughts. Also, with her mental health diagnoses, that greatly impacted her thought process. She could not express her thoughts because of the control the Ross’ had over her. The only world she knew as a child was acting, and she thought that was the norm because of her upbringing. Because she did not have the average childhood, her thinking process as a teenager and adult was greatly impacted. She wanted to make her talent managers proud and hoped that people watching her on television would like her.
