Around 42.5 million Americans suffer from major mental health issues including depression, bipolar disorder and many more. Our mental health should always be fit and be maintained very well. In the Book, Anxiety & Phobia Workbook by Edmund Bourne, he specifically speaks about the struggles to anyone with anxiety disorders, panic attacks, social fears, certain phobias along with providing helpful skills to overcome those problems. All these complications fall under one main category which is our mental health. Mental health is defined as “a state of well-being in which every individual realizes his or her own potential, can cope with the normal stresses of life, can work productively and fruitfully, and is able to make a contribution to her …show more content…
The book was written by Edmund Bourne who specializes in disorders such as anxiety, phobia and treats them. Bourne has over 10 books all focused on disorders helping people all around the world. The main purpose and dedication of the book is to anyone who has struggled with anxiety or an incomprehensible fear. There were several contents within the book with first explaining in depth detail of what the disorders are as most people really don’t understand how bad someone is affected by it. One of Edmund Bourne’s main concern was to really show how to cope with the disorder and manage it for a better mental health. He explained a lot of that with very helpful information along with implementing stories within the workbook. Within the content page he has many chapters with different ways to deal with it. (1) People aren’t usually born with these disorders but there are many factors to get a disorder, a person without certain goals, values or essentially confused in life are very vulnerable to anxiety. Anxiety is a feeling of nervousness, worried, fear about a certain situation or even an object or not feeling in control of your life. Some of the symptoms of anxiety are sweating, dizziness, choking, fear of dying, hot flashes or chills. Most people experience those symptoms during those scary situations while other may experience them at any point in time. Most people don’t realize the difference between anxiety and anxiety disorders which anxiety disorders last longer, more intense and eventually lead to phobias. Some examples of anxiety disorders are panic disorder, agoraphobia, specific phobia, generalized anxiety disorder and the list goes on.
