One reason that competitive sports are harmful to kids is it can hurt their mental health. For example, it is very stressful to balance academics and sports. Many kids have late night practice along with after school practice. This causes homework to be done late into the night or not done at all (Bankert, Competitive Sports). Also, kids may have to give up other interests. “They may have to sacrifice other interests and give up most of the downtime that allows them to just be kids” (Stenson, 2013).
