Gone are the days in which man could communicate face to face without a computer screen or a phone. These communication rituals have faded into an abyss and have been replaced with the quick and accessible clutches of FaceTime in Skype. Nowadays, we can speak directly to each other through the click of a single button. We are glued to our cameras as we communicate with someone through pixels on a screen. We are use to a quick way of communicating with each other to save time, however, this might not be the most efficient, humane way to communicate. I'm talking about the people who run into others because their face is hidden underneath the screen. I'm talking about the people with Apple earbuds, who can't separate there any thoughts on the ones being pushed in their ear. And I'm definitely talking to the ones with the random Android light, flashing other's faces every time a they receives a text from a person in another classroom.
It's one thing to call someone for a quick message, but it's another to be hypnotized by FaceTime, Spotify, and Instagram. Thoreau once stated, “Why should we live with such a waste of life?” It's unreal why we don’t ask ourselves these questions while spending the majority of our time with technology and not with others. While these apps certainly have their benefits in making communication reliable, effective, and convenient, it takes away from the eye-to-eye communication that we have it others.
