Argument Analysis: Route Talk

In Episode 5, “Route Talk”, the host of the podcast, Sarah Koenig, and producer Dana Chivvis conducts simulations to measure the amount of time Adnan would have taken to kill Hae Min Lee. “The state contended that Hae was killed between 2:15 and 2:36 P.M. at the Best Buy parking lot, about a mile from Woodlawn High School,” according to Koenig. Adnan believes that the time frame of the prosecution timeline is way too narrow. He insists that twenty one minutes is not enough time to commit a murder, especially in the broad daylight. After the final bell rings in Woodlawn High School, it is nearly impossible to leave immediately, for they must wait for the buses to leave to pick up their cars. The route to Best Buy also has major intersections

This reason makes sense because Hae died at 2:35pm and track practice didn’t start until 3:00pm or 3:30pm so had an hour to do something like to kill Hae. This part of the story is when is when they talked to him on the phone and asked him about track practice. “Track practice didn’t start until 3:00 or 3:30pm so we had an hour of free time.” This proves that he is guilty because the coach didn’t confirm that he was at track practice at that time. Therefore, Adnan is guilty because he said that he was at track practice after he went to the library to check his e-mails, but the track coach didn’t see him there.…

The movie franchise that began with “The Terminator” in 1984 has had its ups and downs. Being the first film of the series, “The Terminator” did not make a lot of money in total given that it had little hype going into it and it co-starred a relative unknown with some German sounding name that it turns out was Austrian. However, considering it only had a budget of $6.4 million and it made $78 million worldwide according to the Wikipedia page about the franchise, the producers were no doubt happy with the result. “Terminator 2” was the highpoint of the franchise in terms of box office draw and overall awesomeness.…

Right after school was when Hae had to pick up her little cousin but didn’t show up. However, if she was gone and at the same time Adnan was at the library, Adnan couldn’t be the one who killed her. Asia McClain claimed to remember seeing Adnan the day Hae was killed. As a result, Adnan couldn’t have killed Hae because he has an alibi, Asia McClain, who claims to have been talking to Adnan around the time Hae was…

On the other hand, the distributed self would suggest that how people experience the world and make sense of it is primarily a result of socio-cultural processes, which varies over time and space. Constructionists conceptualize depression as an identity continually renegotiated via linguistic exchange and social performance. They would argue that the biological attitude excludes the social and linguistic dimensions of experience from consideration; social constructionist perspective is essential to understand how subjectivity and meaning are constructed in language and social interaction. For example I will briefly discuss the argument of gender differences in depression and how social constructionists consider that through looking at the ‘material discursive’ practices it is the pressures of society, which causes depression. They argue that a certain pressure is thrust upon women to be doing activities that fits the ideology of being a ‘good woman’ this can exhaust the woman’s body therefore causing depression.…

Technology is changing our lives and whether we like it or not we find ourselves having to go along with it. Writers, readers, composers, researchers and so on need to find a way to adapt to the change that comes with what we call “The Technology Era”. As always there will be two sides to any change; the one that will agree with it and open their arms to it, and a second that will forever talk about how great times used to be when things were done the only way they know to do things because they do not like change or cannot adapt to new. Nicholas Carr (2008) states “I’m not thinking the way I used to think. I can feel it most strongly when I’m reading.…

Adnan was a high school senior at Woodland high school in Baltimore Maryland when he gruesomely strangled his ex girlfriend Hae Min Lee to death. He claims to have not committed this unthinkable crime but has no proof supporting this. Adnan’s story states January 13th was just another normal day for him and he has no specific recollection of it other than he would have gone to track practice at 3:30. Even if someone did believe that Adnan was telling the truth, and went to track practice that day, which there is no evidence of, it still would not have given him an alibi for the critical 21 minutes in which Lee was murdered. Lee was murdered sometime between 2:15 and 2:36 and Adnan has no alibi for that time.…

Recently, there has been an argument in the State of Texas about the power of the State and the local governments. This argument had raised up after Gregg Abbott warned about the “Californization” of Texas, and in follow passing laws that limited the power of local governments on issues like fracking in their cities. These arguments are similar to those that are for the powers for the State versus Federal government. Hence, there are lots of arguments for and against the local control, and on the other hand, it is hypocritical for the state government to impose its will on the policies.…

The story of Hae Lee’s death is filled with so many lies, fibs, and plot holes. I think all of those things make this podcast very intriguing and it hooks you in. Sarah Koenig had put so much energy into this podcast just for her to end up being inconclusive. Looking at all of the evidence can help you come up with your own opinion. After examining the evidence and listening to the podcast, I have come to believe that Adnan is guilty, because he seemed unaffected by the disappearance of his ex-girlfriend.…

In Serial’s Season 1 Episode 9: “To Be Suspected” posted in the fall of 2014, journalist Sarah Koenig provides significant new evidence for the murder of Hae Min Lee. Koenig is beginning to argue that the 2:36 p.m. call from Adnan Syed to Jay saying that Hae was dead is nearly impossible. She has multiple other people that went to Woodlawn High School to support her argument by stating that they recall speaking with Hae right after school or spotted her around 3 p.m. at school. Koenig speculates that if these accusations were true, then Jays testimony would no longer be trustworthy and his statements about the time and places would not be credible. Throughout episode 9, Koenig introduces her audience to the life Adnan has built in prison along…

The arguments were presented using deduction. The general statement was listed first but the speaker’s goal was to explain how she derived that general statement out of the specific experiments done in the past. The three arguments the speaker presented were not in any obvious order from most effective to least effective, or in a climactic way. They focused on equally important arguments that have to be made clear in order for her point to get across to everyone. First, the speaker had a scientific example, then evidence from a social experiment (that also explains how this will affect everyday life), and finally a personal story.…
