Imagine getting a phone call from the local hospital or a police officer saying that your son or daughter was in a car crash. You rush quickly to the hospital to find out that your child had passed away from the crash. As this nightmare becomes a reality and the pain sets in, questions start going through your head such as, “Were they driving quickly and lost control?”, “Were they texting and driving?”, “Was something distracting them?” Then you start to ask yourself, “Did they get their driving habits from watching my driving?” Car crashes happen every day in the United States, but did you know that they are the number one killer of teens? Drivers at the age of sixteen are twice as likely to be in a crash than that of an older teen. Programs such as the graduated licensing program (GLD) have …show more content…
The course contains classroom lecture and six hours of driving with an instructor. According the survey from the University of California, almost half of the teenagers said that the course could be improved and one-fifth of the teens said that it should be more hands-on. They expressed the need for more than six hours of driving time with an instructor. Also, some of the teens frustrated with the instructors because some were focused on other tasks instead of making sure the teen was driving safely and getting the prime information they need to know (Carlos 208). I can relate to these teens because my driver education instructor would talk about other things instead of my driving and what to do in situations. I had to rely on my parents for a bulk of my learning. If students are not enjoying the way that driver education is taught, are they really gaining any knowledge from it? This is probably one of the reasons why us teens say that our parents have the greatest impact. Make sure you are leaving that impact on your
