If you asked me two years ago if I thought homework posed as a benefit I would say absolutely not. After graduating elementary school almost four years ago and starting to get real homework, I would disagree. Although it's not my favorite hobby, it remains very valuable in my life and will continue as a part of my life for quite a while. I believe homework exceeds in benefits and can help you on tests, help you learn to manage time and assume more self discipline and can even influence others. Your final grade determines your GPA which is what colleges look at, along with your final exams which can also be influenced by your homework attempts. Continuing, last week I recieved a test in world history. My teacher gave us plenty of study material but I decided not to use them, I decided I obtained better things to do. Instead when the test arrived I received a much lower score than I knew I was capable of. After talking to my teacher he agreed to let me redo it, and I decided my grade held to much importance to me and that I needed to study this time. I got a 29% higher than last time. I was proud of myself for the higher score but disappointed that I didn't study the first …show more content…

Many people agree with this including Galloway Township, N.J. School which actually banned homework for grades k-6th. For their “no” reasons, they expressed that like athletes, students need to practice skills over the weekend as well as it holds a good time for parents to help with homework. I received a 68%, and it was my worst mark in any class all year. This was the point in time when I knew that I was never going to be great at math. I thought to myself that I should stick too what I am good at which is History, Geography, French. But no, that summer I made a vow to myself that I would average an over 90% in all of my courses. Secondly, going into the grade 8 exam season, I knew I had something to prove to my parents, my friends, and especially myself.…

In the beginning of high school, I couldn’t understand the importance of handling my responsibilities, especially when it came to my school work. I just couldn’t find the motivation to hand in stuff like homework on time. I actually started to do less and less each school year. I never try to fix my problem because there were never any consequences to it. I would pass all my classes with decent grades with no problems despite ignoring a lot of the work, but then I was called by my English teacher to stay after class.…

In recent years, parents have began to wonder whether or not homework was beneficial to their children or not. After spending their entire day in school, children are usually given extra assignments to complete at home when they could be spending that crucial time with family. There are said to be both positive and negative aspects of this topic. The article I chose to analyze was “Rethinking Homework” by Alfie Kohn. This article talks about the so called pros and cons of homework.…

This year I decided to challenge myself academically. I made the decision of taking four AP classes and math analysis so, to say the least it has been a difficult journey. In addition, out of all the classes I took I struggled the most with AP Chemistry. The material is pretty difficult to understand, even after spending a couple hours to review my notes some things would still be a little blurry. I was failing my test.…

A Relentless Burden Various levels of government, including at the state and local level, impose guidelines on the curriculum for our public schools. The purpose of the curriculum is to establish an equal footing among students for their continued studies for college and the workforce. Homework is incorporated in the agenda and committee teachers impose a minimum requirement every night. With differing amounts in certain areas and days, people question whether a significant amount of homework does more harm than good in our modern societies. The U.S News & World Report conducted a survey on over 1,000 students and confirmed that “teachers on average assign about 3.5 hours of homework each week.…

So, during homeroom, I began to retake these tests. After I took the tests I received an A and 2 B’s on them, and it has taught me to correct my mistakes and own them. My parents always exclaimed that I should own my mistake rather than to sweep it under the rug. Not to mention, that if you don’t meet your own expectations, then it makes absolutely no sense not to try to meet said expectations. Similarly I also began the year in 7th and 8th grade with atrocious grades, where I began working my finest to improve upon those…

Taylor Oberpriller The Dumbest Generation 1/5/15 ⅚ B The current under 30 generation is the dumbest generation ever. Just because of the fact that we have access to more advanced technology and knowledge of the use of that technology, it could also be argued that the same technology has disconnected this generation from real peer contact, common sense problem solving skills, connection to writing skills, and critical thinking which has put the under 30 generation at a disadvantage and has, in so many ways made us lazy and dumb.…

There are various effective arguments I would make to support students having homework by their teachers. The first argument I would make is that homework helps students to better retain the lessons they’ve learned during the school day. Students need a lot of exercises to do to retain what they learn everyday in school. Since class time isn’t enough to provide a lot of exercises on one subject, homework is the best way to exercise what’s been learned in class. If no homework is given to students on a subject that’s been discussed in class, it’s more likely for them to forget the subject the next day.…

It can consolidate the knowledge that students have already studied, train students' creativity, and develop students' intelligence. Moreover, it is very essential to require some homework in the teaching process. Butler (1987) states, “Homework is the time students spend outside the classroom in assigned activities to practice, reinforce or apply newly-acquired skills and knowledge and to learn necessary skills of independent study” (p.17). Most homework assigned by teachers is for practice and preparation purposes because instructional homework may be assigned to help students. Parents often have questions about why homework is assigned, how beneficial it is, and how they may best help their child complete homework.…
