Arguments Against Breaking Laws

As a law abiding citizen growing up in the world today, I personally don't agree with breaking the law. However, if I am defending myself because I'm getting robbed, beaten, or raped I feel that it would be justified. However, it would be up to a judge and jury to decide my innocence. My parents raised to believe wrong is wrong and right is right. My parents taught me, "If you can do the crime you can do the time." Therefore, breaking the law is not right because there are consequences. If you can deal with the consequences then that's your right. However, being a vigilante isn't right because you become your own judge and jury. For example, if I was to break the law by speeding my parents would take my car keys and also punish me by making me pay for the speeding ticket. If I were to get caught stealing in a retail store my parents would go as far as letting them take me to jail and make me do a civil service for the community like picking up the city's trash. My belief in this matter is that actions are taught not learned. If you grow up in a home that teaches you not to break the law or rules, then you will believe that breaking the law is wrong no matter what the circumstances are. Many people break the law because they have no respect for authority. Then you have authorities that abuse their power. This also creates chaos and sparks situations where the law is broken. However, this doesn't make breaking the law right. My faith in the justice system is low because growing up I've seen too many people of color being killed by people that are here to protect and serve. Therefore, I feel that you should be careful of what you do and think before you react in any situation. Every action has a consequence which can be good or bad depending on the
