Gun control has, over the last few years, become a controversial issue that has led to numerous heated debates among the different groups in society today. This issue, in particular, is one of only a few issues where people are very passionate about their opinions. People are either really against gun control, or they are really for gun control. Many arguments are presented for gun control, and there are many arguments against gun control. Some arguments are persuasive to me, and one argument, in particular, is flawed to me. There are many arguments leaning towards gun control. The first argument that is presented involves the statistics of gun related deaths in the United States. The United States ranked in at number one, among twenty five nations, when it came to gun related deaths. The countries which were compared to the United States had stricter gun control laws that helped keep down the deaths related to guns. Another argument that anti-gun activists use examines firearms or guns in the home. The argument suggests that homes with guns lend themselves to more gun related deaths (Watkins 1). The first argument that those who are for the usage of guns use the argument that guns used in crimes are not usually bought by the criminal (Wright 1). Studies have shown that a majority of the guns used in crimes are either stolen, or passed down from one criminal to another (Wright 1). Another argument that those against gun control use revolves around the idea of concealed carry. Research shows that the forty states that offer citizens concealed carrying permits do not see a hike in gun related crimes any more than states without concealed carrying permits see (Wright 1).
