Mandatory voting would force uninformed citizens to vote in elections. According to the text,” 35% of Americans can’t name a single branch in our government, according to a 2014 survey” . And only about a 3rd of Americans can name all three branches. Another main reason that there should not be mandatory voting is that non-voters avoid the ballet box because they just don’t care enough to get informed. Americans surprisingly don’t really care about how their government works, or social issues that face the united states. It takes a hard understanding of democracy to say that our politics will be greatly improved by getting more input from uninformed people.
