In this journal I will be characterizing Atticus. Atticus in chapters 10-15 is mysterious for many reasons. One of the many reasons he was mysterious is because it said in the book “ Atticus Finch was the deadest shot in Maycomb County in his time” (Lee 129). If I found out or anyone did that my dad was a great shooter before I was born I would be asking myself why did he not tell me before. Atticus could have been trying to protect Scout and Jem by not letting them know that he had a great shot, but if he was trying to protect what was he trying to protect them from? The second reason he is mysterious is because it said he was the best checker player in the county. Scout was surprised because he would beat him. Atticus obviously just let

The rifle cracked, Tim Johnson leaped, flopped over and crumpled on the sidewalk... He didn’t know what hit him” (Lee 127). Scout was referring to how her and Jem always thought of Atticus as old since he doesn’t do anything much and were kind of ashamed. Also in this quote Atticus knew the consequences of him missing and was still brave enough to shoot. Another quote is what Miss Maudie told the kids about Atticus saying “Forgot to tell you the other day besides playing the Jew’s harp, Atticus Finch was the deadest shot Maycomb County in his time” (Lee 129).…

From him covering Scout with a blanket when she was freezing, to him leaving little trinkets in a tree for the children. Sure, it was strange that he (almost) never left his house, but how could you tell his reasoning behind it when you don’t know a single thing about him? How could you judge him for it? As long as he’s not harming anyone, why bother? After all, it is a sin to kill a…

Miss Maudie felt that Atticus never told his kids Scout and Jem about him being a good shooter because “. . . shooin’s different from playing the piano or it like. Miss Maudie explains why Jem and Scout haven’t been aware of their father’s talent. It’s shown that Atticus has never talked about his talent because his own children did not know about it until he shot the dog. When Miss Maudie said “…I guess he decided he wouldn’t shoot till he had to, and he had to today ” shows that Atticus deiced to never shoot any animal which is a way of respecting all of Gods creations. Lastly, Atticus shows himself being humble and sticking to God’s commands, when Bob Ewell approaches Atticus and calls him names, threatens to kill him, and spits on him, but according to Miss Stephanie Crawford, “Atticus didn’t bat an eye, just took out his handkerchief and wiped his face and stood there and let Mr. Ewell call him names…”…

Atticus Finch from To Kill A Mockingbird is one of those rare characters who strives to be a static and consistent - and he ultimately fails. His appearance is unextraordinary and he’s nearly completely unchanging, however as we learn about him throughout the story we discover his true essence and how it could never be properly reflected in his appearance. Atticus’ appearance is quite plain, and in all honesty, it’s what you’d expect a lawyer from that era to wear and look like. If you think of the town in which Atticus lives however, you see that how he dresses causes him to stick out as well as alienates him from certain people of Maycomb.…

Didn’t you know your daddy’s-“Hush, Heck said Atticus, let’s go back to town (128-129).” This subject was brought upon when Atticus killed a sick dog.…
