Christopher’s Hospital works alongside the Lutheran Settlement House (LSH), which has a program called, Children and Mom’s Project (CAMP). CAMP’s mission is to support victims of domestic violence. CAMP provides an IPV counselor at the St. Christopher’s Hospital to help patients who are victims of domestic violence. Crystal was given the IPV counselor, Patti Barry, and the hospital social worker, Laurie Stewart, to support her. While, spending time with baby Maria, Crystal discloses her husband’s abuse and her fears for herself and her children. Crystal reached out to the hospital social worker, explaining that she wanted to escape from her abusive situation. She wanted to safely get herself and her children permanently away from her husband and to establish a safe, stable living environment for them. She got her family and their belongings prepared to leave and called Laurie for help to successfully fulfill her goals to escape to a safe environment. Laurie connected with the IPV counselor, Patti, and they created an action plan for Crystal. It was very responsible and courageous of Crystal to decide to leave her abusive relationship and reach out to Laurie for help. I appreciate that Laurie decided to work with Patti to support Crystal because each of their individual experiences and knowledge combined greatly benefited Crystal. The decision to move Crystal and her family to a temporary shelter for domestic violence victims was good because it gave the family support and a sense of security. I also liked that Laurie and Patti tried to create activities for Crystal’s older children to stay entertained at the hospital, so that Crystal could bond with Maria. I thought that Laurie effectively solved the conflict about the medical staff inaccurately judging Crystal. It was good that she asked Crystal if she could disclose her information to the medical staff because of confidentiality. She was able to professionally and constructively explain to the team that their assumptions were inaccurate and show them that they should not judge patients, especially when they do not know the whole situation. I would not change anything about the case or intervention. I feel that Laurie and Patti provided Crystal and her family with the support and resources they needed to overcome their
