Banning gay marriage is a violation of human rights and amendments to the Constitution. The 1st and 9th amendments are being violated if the government decides to ban gay marriage. 1st amendment states “Congress shall make no law ... prohibiting the free exercise thereof.” This means that the government can’t prevent anyone from practicing a belief or religion. The 14th amendment states, “All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside. No State shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law.” This means that no matter what gender, race, sexuality, or religion, citizens are citizens …show more content…
A research study in June 2010 stated that children of lesbian parents were doing better in school - academic and social - than children of straight parents. Later in July, another study was conducted, with results showing children of gay parents were doing as well as children of straight parents. The only negative impact on the children is when they see that their parents are tormented by society for being someone they want to be.
