I had 128 Defender Dollars that could only be spent at the campus food court before Christmas break, so I spoiled the girls with a shopping spree of letting them get whatever they wanted (besides energy drinks). The girls good-naturedly made fun of me, eating more of my food than I did and teasing me by saying I was bribing them instead of having friends to spend my monopoly money on. We sat at a table in the food court area of the Grille talking about various random topics like friends. When I reminded them that I’m not supposed to be just a friend figure to them, one of the girls piped up and suggested “what about best friends?” I was both flattered and humored as another one of the girls genuinely thought that the name of my role was a prophet. There was a little bit of youth group related conversation, but not much. Although that’s not always a bad thing, one of my goals for next semester is to have at least one small group night that is intensely theologically focused into a Bible study gathering type of format. One of the things that I did at every small group last year was taking turns with “Happy and Crappies,” so this time I made sure to have each girl say one high point and one low point about their past
