Sutherland et al. , (2015) conducted an intervention evaluating the effectiveness of the multi-component intervention ‘Physical Activity 4 Everyone’ (PA4E1). The aim of the intervention was to examine the effectiveness of the 24-month PA4E1 intervention in reducing the decline of moderate to vigorous physical activity among secondary school in disadvantaged areas. The intervention targeted disadvantaged schools in NSW, with five intervention schools and five control schools. The total number of students involved in the intervention was 1,150, where students were aged 12 at the baseline measurement.…

During my 19 years of life, I’ve attended 7 different schools, lived in a total of 9 houses, owned 12 cars and trucks, and was a bridesmaid in my mother’s wedding. I was born on January 1, 1997 in Kailua Kona, Hawai’i. At the age of 5, I was blessed with a baby brother, Shayne, who is now twice my size. When I was 6 years old, my parents separated and it turned our lives upside down. It was during their separation that my grandparents, on my mother’s side, that became a second set of parents to Shayne and I. Later, there was an addition of a stepfather, Hano, 2 stepbrothers, Travis and Noah, and a step sister, Raisha, when I was 14.…
An analysis of Response to Intervention (RTI) reveals progress in closing the achievement gap in Reading and Math. Numerous studies have been conducted on the effects of Response to Intervention (RTI) in closing the achievement gap in regards to ethnicity and race. Teachers use RTI in classrooms to encourage a positive impact on closing the achievement gap between various ethnicities. In this article, we will determine the effect of RTI on closing the achievement gap between three ethnicity groups; Hispanic, White and Black. Response to Intervention (RTI) is a program that is tiered based in order to assess, screen and evaluate students across subjects to determine the level of interventions a student needs.…
The program also creates a supportive environment by advocating for safe and accessible areas for children to engage in physical activity. The program also creates a supportive environment by using data collection to determine the best time to implement physical activity. For example, the report indicated that children were more likely to be active and have free time after school, which would be an ideal time to implement a physical activity program or regime. Our Health, Our Future aims to strengthen community actions by using the community as a resource in the forums. The forums help the community make decisions, plan interventions and implement them to achieve better health.…
My goal in this behavioral change project was to slowly eliminate soda and replace it with something more healthy like water. In my project, it was overall a success but I did drink soda a couple of times by accident. At first I had trouble trying to avoid drinking soda but it slowly got better as the weeks went by. In the first couple weeks I had to be conscious about everything I drank so I can avoid drinking any soda. After a few weeks, I stopped having to actively think about it because I just stopped drinking soda as much and built a habit of drinking water instead.…

Literature Review A review of the literature highlights three key themes; integrating designated time into the school day, providing instructional leadership, and modelling effective collaboration. It is a complex task to provide meaningful instruction (Pugach, et al., 2012). Administrators need to have a deep understanding of pedagogical content knowledge; including assessment practices, curriculum and new research (Robinson, 2011). Fullan & Quinn (2016) stress the integral role of an administrator positioning themselves as a learner. As leaders of learning, Fullan & Quinn (2016) identify three crucial criteria to foster school-wide collective learning; modelling learning, fostering trusting relationships and an unrelenting focus on student learning.…
A situation that I found challenging was when my client would run away during therapy sessions. I would run after my client each time. My client isn’t just any runner but he is a fast one! After each therapy session I would be exhausted from constantly chasing him around inside the therapy room and in the hallways. After reading an article called “Evidence-Based Behavioral Intervention for Repetitive Behaviors in Autism” I learned about alternatives regarding my client.…
My behavior change plan was to try to eat more vegetables each and every day. Ideally, eat seven or more servings of fruits and vegetables. My long term plan was to eat a variety of fruits and vegetables each and every day without thinking twice. My goal is to not have to remind myself to eat healthy, I want to do it naturally. If I can get in the habit of doing this then I believe I will put myself on a good path to a healthier lifestyle.…
This questionnaire assessed physical activity over a week. Students who participated recorded their frequency of strenuous, moderate, and mild exercise of fifteen minutes or more. When questionnaires were collected, the researchers used an exercise index to evaluate scores. A single question on the questionnaire was used to assess physical activity behavior. In this question, participants answered “yes” or “no” to determine if they had a program in place that improved or maintained physical fitness.…
At the beginning of the semester I had a bit of knowledge about certain health concerns. As a result, it doesn't just affect the person with health issues, it affects their families too. The class has definitely helped me to recognize certain habits which I need to change in my lifestyle to live a happier and healthier life. As the semester continued, I noticed that I changed a few of my behaviors and risks I was performing, to the end that would damage my health or others. With this in mind, I observed myself starting to watch what I was eating and drinking.…
Shores & Bender (2007) defines it “a process of implementing high-quality, scientifically validated instruction practices based on learner needs, monitoring student progress, and adjust-ing instruction based on the student’s re-sponse.” Response to Intervention measures the responses of students learning and to also identify if the student’s have a learning disabil-ity when they do not respond well to high qual-ity instruction. RTI serves a purpose to provide student’s an intense instruction that will benefit and support their educational needs. Teachers also can monitor and frequently assess student progress at a constant level.…
My goal for the behavior change project was to lose ten pounds by the cutoff date. My three short-term goals were losing two pounds, five pounds, and eight pounds. Looking back on these goals, I wish that I would have chosen better dates for these to be completed by. My original long-term goal was to lose twenty pounds, which now seems almost impossible due to me not being able to lose ten pounds in a few months. I was also unable to meet my three short term goals.…
