A nurse practitioner is an advanced practice nurse that helps with all aspects of patient care, including diagnosis, treatments and consultations. There are different types of practitioners. There are ones that work with babies and children, families, adults, mental health, and the elderly. Nurses have many duties, some include: diagnosing illnesses, prescribe medication and therapy, conduct check-ups, order test for the patient, and counsel the children and family members. There are a few responsibilities they also have, they must to establish and maintain the patient's medical record and any other record needed. They may also need at least a Mastor’s degree in nursing. Nurse practitioners must have compassion in what they do and be able to lead others. If they do not have compassion in the things they do they will not ever enjoy the career that they had chose to do the rest of their life until retirement. They must also be self confident and show great communication skills. They must have communication skills because they talk to people everyday all day and if they are shy or not knowing anything they are talking about then the patient will be getting angry and may leave and never come back
