In the third and last part of Benjamin Franklin’s Autobiography, Franklin writes quite a bit about his involvement in politics and government. Throughout the Autobiography Franklin is involved with many important government officials, now during the later stage in his life he actually starts becoming part of the government himself. One of Franklin’s many inventions was the public library, back in the 1700’s reading books and other literature was luxury and it was usually only the elite rich people who had private collections. Franklin’s first piece of inventing the library was his Poor Richard's Almanac. During the first part of the Autobiography Franklin said that he would study a writer till he could write like them so does that mean that he was good a copying other writers or was he actually a good writer. An example would be, “In addition to the debate over whether the author of the Autobiography was a great writer or not, and the debate over whether Franklin was a great man or not, there is another debate implicit in this edition” ( Griffith, 168). Benjamin Franklin was a very good writer and had many famous writings and one that he seems most famous for is his Autobiography. Although Franklin’s Autobiography is not a typical autobiography because he really only writes about his successes and how good he was. Usually when someone writes an autobiography the majority of the book is about family, childhood, and their adult life. Now Franklin did write about these topics but there were few mentions of them and when he talked about his childhood, Franklin talked about how he was so smart and respected by his peers. Franklin put a lot of effort into his Autobiography and it is very odd that he did not finish it, also the last piece he wrote was about a tax law that was passed, but that is why it the book is definitely not a regular
