According to the Canadian Food Inspection Agency, its organization “upholds the importance of biotechnology and ensures that it is being used safely and properly within the scientific community.”2 With the support of the Canadian Government, the CFIA strives to protect Canadians from preventive health risks, protect consumers through fair and effective food, sustain plant and animal resources, contribute to the security of Canada’s food supply, and provide sound agency management.3 The CFIA collaborates with public health authorities at the federal, provincial, and municipal levels to monitor and analyze food-related outbreaks and potential hazards in the food supply.
