The All Lives Matter Movement believes that we need to take the focus off of paying attention to black lives and pay close attention to all lives because as Americans we are all important. This movement has been widely talked about in the media, being harshly criticized by many. This has been harshly criticized because it erases the issue of race. David Bedrick responded to the All Lives Matter Movement in an article on The Huffington Post and wrote that when you respond to the idea of “Black Lives Matter” with “All Lives Matter” the article you are not opening your eyes to the issue of race. The Black Lives Matter Movement is not an argument saying that “black lives matter more than white lives” but instead that the injustice blacks receive in everyday life, and more recently by white police officers, is prejudiced and needs to be stopped. Their needs to be an equal playing field between all races and racism needs to stop being dismissed. He says that All Lives Matter also presents another problem because the majority of white people have never had their race used against them. Many white people have never had to identify themselves as white because they just view themselves as a normal person, where a black person has lived a very different life. Forming an “All Lives Matter” group just pretends that the problem does not exist and ignores that fact that there have been multiple unwarranted police causalities against blacks. Elite Daily claims that the “All Lives Matter” Movement is simply counterproductive. It takes away from the fact that many black are victims of unwanted and unnecessary murders and simply just puts the light back on white Americans who have never been the victim of racial violence. It is undeniable that all lives matter, but what truly matters at this point is helping those who are in need.
