But when it comes to Body modifications many Americans think of just tattoos, piercings, etc. but the complete definition of a body modification is anything that changes the natural appearance of the body, so tanning, dieting, plastic surgery, even brushing of the teeth all count as body mods (Body Modification & Body Image." Bradley University). So what deems a body mod as acceptable? Simple. It’s society. Look at Victorian England with the fashion of corseting- even though the binding of the rib cage is extremely unhealthy, it was still found beautiful by individuals because society deemed it beautiful, even today this trend is seemingly still around, although modified many women use a waist trainer in order to thin the waist area (Body Modification through a Sociologist 's Eyes). Another trend that existed like this was in feudal japan with the practice of foot binding, where a young woman’s feet would be broken and bent then wrapped tightly for months until she could fit a near size 2 shoe (Yuan, Anthony, Dr. Body Modification or Mutilation)! The most obvious solution to this all, is to not question why, because humanity wastes time. Humanity is humanity, by definition we are meant for change. it matters not what someone thinks of another, because they don 't know the story why they got that certain tattoo or why they have that certain piercing, all we know is that all of humanity has a different story to be told about the life they live, so why not express it openly. Society is an idea created to keep people in line from obtaining true freedom of who they are, so this idea must be disbanded for society to move forward and lead humanity to a brilliant new
