The first aspects that I believe made a large impact on their overall survival, was the fact that they were not focused on the peril they were in; rather, they were focused on each other. In the book Endurance it talks about the rambunctious yet caring group of sailors they had aboard the ship named Endurance. They would play pranks on each other, tell stories, perform songs, and other ludicrous socials. It says in Philippians 2:4-5,” Let each of you look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others. We can see in the book Endurance, that nearly every night they played music. When uplifting music is being played, your mind is on the music, not your feelings. On pg. 177 of Education it says, “…rightly employed, it (music) is a precious gift of God, designed tso uplift the thoughts to high and noble themes, to inspire and elevate the soul.” Mrs. White continues on writing about the positive effects of music, demonstrating the positive effects that the music aboard the Endurance could have had on the moods of the crew members.
