Book Bag Report

Improved Essays
When designing the book bag, I made sure that the activities I included were activities that the children would know how to complete. They were activities that the students had completed in their class with other stories or in another context. When reading stories in class, the students would create a story sequence to summarize what happened through the story. So, I knew that they would know what to do to complete the story sequence activity. To personalize it and make it fit with the story, I made it into a caterpillar that they attached the clips to with images. For the students’ letter of the week, they discuss words/images that begin with the sound for that week. For example: Letter of the week is Pp, so each student would have an …show more content…

How did the children react when the book bag was presented to them by you? Give specific examples.

On the day that I presented the book bag, only ten of the students were present, seven were out with the flu. As soon as the students seen the bag they were asking, “What is that?” “Is it for us?” “Can we look in it?” “It has a butterfly and caterpillar.” “What is that for?” etc.. I showed the students the bag and explained that they each would be able to take it home on the day they were leader so that they wouldn't be upset or angry. I showed the students each book in the bag and then showed them how to complete the activities that were in it as well. Once I was finished showing them everything, I showed them the Material List on the bag so that they would remind their parents to make sure everything was placed back in the bag to return to school. During the childrens’ center time, I had the bag sitting out for them to look through. 2. Did the children do the activities in the bag? How did you know? Did they complete them?

It is hard to say if every student completed the activities in the bag because I was not in the class everyday that the bag was brought back. On the days I was there, I would ask the students what they learned and if they enjoyed them. I would see if they could tell me what the stories were about and who read the stories to

During one part of the conversation, when the children were having a hard time answering what the beginning sound of the word was, I gave the children other words that they may have been more familiar with. (As seen above, I used car as an example to explain the /c/ sound). This would allow the children to make the connection to beginning sounds more clear. When using words the children are familiar with, will hopefully help them make the connection to words that have similar beginning sounds. o It would have been hard to do in this type of setting, but I should have tried to ask more open-ended questions. This would allowed us to explore similar beginning sounds and get a better understanding of what sounds different letters makes.…

For this assignment I had the opportunity to observe Renee Boucher's resource room class at Sunset High School in Beaverton. This observation was interesting and different from previous observations I have done, for this was my first time observing a high school classroom. From my understanding the students in the room were in grades 9-12. When I arrived Ms.Boucher was giving announcements for the week. Then three students did a book talk.…

The students loved the visual aids I brought because the map was Disney Land and they enjoyed the unique design of the compass rose on the map. Personally, I think that creating a compass rose spinner was appropriate for the game that we played. The materials were already made for the students and this helped the students learn the information without struggling to cut out the sections of the compass rose. Generally, the activity may not need any modifications because it worked so well with this…

Focus student one showed a 70% accuracy when asked to identify and sort pictures of objects into conceptual categories, a 59% accuracy when asked to identify and match all upper and lower case letter with prompting, and a 75% accuracy when asked to retell the main ideas or important facts from a read aloud. Based on these scores, I plan to raise the accuracy percentage goal for identifying and sorting colors, maintain the percentage accuracy goal for identifying upper and lower case letters, and raise the accuracy percentage goal for retelling main ideas or important facts. In terms of learning goals, the focus student has a bilateral hearing loss, therefore his learning goal will be to use self-advocating skills to ask for help or repetition of a question. The areas of growth that will be focused on for the sequence of lessons are organization of objects into categories, letter identification, and sequencing.…

In the first six years of early stage development children who were read to at early ages show more advancement in educational, social and linguistic development. You might not know it however, children who read at early ages tend to display advancement in communication, burdensome circumstances and creativity. Although not everyone will agree, I want to present the idea that reading early to your toddler has many pros and cons, some of which you may surprise you. I am concerned that because not every parent knows the benefits of reading to your toddler gets them prepared for life, they don’t put much thought or time for that matter in introducing them to the thought of reading. This issue is not being addressed as it should be or as I…

Based on data I collected from coach observations, peer observations, and feedback I decided to focus on OETF indicator 1.B.1: Plans meaningful tasks that require student ownership. Upon determining that indicator and creating a teacher practice goal based on the data I collected, I began to further breakdown my observation feedback and use that as a baseline level. I noticed from my initial feedback that all of my students were not engaging in the task completely. I felt as though I could better support my students as I want them to all feel successful. In order to do that I worked with my coach and reflected on my task and how it could be adapted in the planning stage to be more meaningful.…
