Roma Minorities, the LGBT community, and other groups are experiencing major discrimination and nothing is being done about it. There has been only limited progress in the Western Balkans in ensuring accountability for war crimes, countering discrimination and abuses against the Roma minority, and trying to stop violent harassment against journalists and the LGBT community. The people who are committing these crimes need to be locked up and held accountable. About a dozen masked people stormed the Merlinka Festival at the Sarajevo art Cinema Kriterion on February 1, shouting homophobic insults such as, “There will be no [Pride] Parade in Sarajevo”, and “There will be no faggots in Sarajevo” then attacked three of the participants. No one was found to be dead. However, two were hospitalized with minor injuries and psychological trauma. “The police in Bosnia and Herzegovina have a duty to protect all citizens regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity. The fact that police turned up late at this event despite their agreement to be there put people at risk. This is not the first time police in Bosnia and Herzegovina have failed to safeguard LGBT Activists” (“Bosnia,”2014). The police had already been contacted about threats that had been made prior to the event. They had made prior arrangements to have extra security so that something like this would not happen.
