You wouldn't believe that something like a common cold could lead to something as severe as a epileptic seizure. It is also common for someone who is already diagnosed with epilepsy disorder to have a random seizure due to sickness. Normally when you have epilepsy it is best to not mix your seizure medication with any other medicines, and you shouldn't self medicate yourself. This can include cough syrups,alcohol,marijuana, and any other substances mixed with you're normal seizure medication. They can cause a severe type of seizure know as a grand mal, and lead to many health complications. Although it is frequent for that causing seizures, most commonly in the United States,head injuries are the main cause of epilepsy.There are a limitless amount of causes of epilepsy and they are categorized in four main groups. 2. Prenatal injuries are damages to a child before birth. A child’s brain is very sensitive to most injuries. According to Epilepsy Society, “prenatal injuries can increase your chance of developing epilepsy.”
3. Hereditary causes are passed down from generation. Although researchers say that epilepsy aren’t entirely genetic, most cases of epilepsy are genetic based.
4. Environmental factors include alcohol and drug abuse, sleep deprivation/ lack of sleep, and stress. There is a higher risk of someone having a seizure after consuming an excessive amount of alcohol, than someone with the actual disease
