Palmer argues that everyone has times of bravery and times of weakness it is shown in Will’s life Murray’s life and even Sid’s life. Will has always been Murray’s hero especially when they we little and even when they grew up. Murray saw Will as a brave person especially when he “[Will] fired the gun” but when Will found out Ada (his childhood sweetheart) was marrying Sid and not him, he ran away to the war instead of staying at home with his family. So that he could talk about death and how serious but common it was back in the time of war. He talked about family and that every family does in fact have secrets but sometimes they are not as big as other times. Palmer also included bravery to show that bravery is not a fixed thing and that it can change at any given time, as can cowardness, you do not always have to be a coward I believe that all three of these statements are true to this day and were not just relevant back in the time of war. Every family still has their own secrets maybe not about the war but still secrets and bravery is still not a fixed thing.
