The understanding of ‘Growth Mindset’ stemmed from the ideas of Carol Dweck in 1988. A psychologist, she was interested in how a person’s mindset can set them up for success or failure. She discovered that an individual's theory about their own intelligence has a considerable impact on their motivation, effort, and approach to challenges. It was this model of the fixed vs. growth mindset I wanted to focus on and how developing a growth mindset can influence the development of a student's cognitive, affective and behavioural development (Dweck, C.S. & Leggett, E.L.
