SSG Upshaw joined the military on 1 August 1997 from Buffalo, NY. He attended Basic Training at Fort Jackson, SC and Advanced Individual training at Fort Lee, VA. SSG Upshaw graduated as a 92A10, Automated Logistic Specialist and was assigned to Maintenance Troop, 11th ACR Fort Irwin, CA from Oct 1997 – Feb 2003. SSG Upshaw was an integral part of the original team that developed the Black Horse Express, delivering more than 10,000 high priority repair parts. SSG Upshaw was reassigned to the 725th MSB in Feb 2003, and deployed to Afghanistan with the 25th Infantry Division in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.…
Both Chaplain were give direction to inform SPC Davis the importance of attend BA and that the CMD will be better suited to provide support to him via the army resource/programs on Ft Jackson. Both Chaplain returned and provide this status: ******CH Lee and I (CH Diller) tried to meet with SPC Davis today around 1100hrs EST (19 May 2017). According to his mother he was out with a friend. We stressed the importance of him reaching out to the unit for the purpose of accountability and creating a helpful way forward. We did meet briefly with Mrs. Davis, his estranged wife.…
He walked all the way back to the base after he was shot. The recovery took about 1-2 years physically and mentally. He remembers the accident clearly like if it was yesterday and he would do anything to change that day. When the family heard about the injury his wife and children began to cry and they all knew one thing, that on that day their life was about to change. The current issues facing the Marine Corps today: women in combat MOSs, the repeal of “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell;” the Uniformed Victim Advocate (UVA), and Equal Opportunity (EO) issues made him feel uncomfortable.
