There are many ways to diagnose a concussion …show more content…
One way they have figured out that helps is that doctors and medical professionals need to be able to properly diagnose a concussion. Now, doctors and trainers are trying to keep patients with concussions out of physical activity until they have fully recovered. Also, kids now have to be cleared by a health-care professional in order to play again. Some teams now have special technology in players’ helmets to see if they are alright after a big blow to the head. Another system has also been developed that by putting small sensors in your helmet, you can track hits to the head("Special Report: Knocking Heads: The Dangers of Concussions."). Some mouthguards have also been invented to measure rotational accelerations to the head(Bjorn Carey). Meanwhile, former NFL players are donating their brains so that scientists can study it and the effects of blows to the head. Former football players are also trying to help create safer helmets so the game can be played more safely. Researchers are using Head Impact Telemetry System, which measures head impacts by magnitude and location. Now, more coaches are trying to tell their players to tackle with their head away from the impact, so there is a less chance of getting a concussion(Dan Polnerow). Scientists are now trying harder than ever to try and find out how to prevent
