Mr. White told a story about the monkey’s paw after hearing it, he wanted to test it to see if it was true he then wished for 200 pounds. The next day a soldier came to their house, saying their son had died, but they got the two hundred pounds they wished for, this happened all because he wished for two hundred pounds its simple cause and effect when he wished for the money it was going to cost him something and the price was his son’s life. Jacobs page 109 The quotations mean that when Mr. White wished for the money and when the crash of sound at the piano happened, it made the readers think that monkeys paw actually worked. After the wish happened the next day a soldier came to their house gave them two hundred pounds, but also told them that their son died, if they did not wish for the money then they would not have the two hundred pounds but their son would be alive. The narrator Edgar Allan Poe described how he felt and what was going on in his head, he said an idea entered his brain that the idea was to kill the old man it was crucial and every night around midnight he would watch him sleep and wait for the moment to strike. The time came it was midnight on the eighth night he wanted to end the old man’s life that very night, in the old man’s room he saw the old man sleeping, he would slowly open the door, he wanted to kill this old man simply because he had the eye of a vulture and he simply leaped into the room took the man’s life and hid the remains. One of the main moments that created suspense was when he heard ringing in his ears and his head was aching, he kept trying to get rid of it by speaking louder, but it would not stop and when he couldn’t take it he said out loud I murdered the man and hid his body in the floor! “MY head ached a ringing in my ears” “I talked more to get rid of the noise” Author Edgar Allan Poe page 94. The quotations mean that he was suffering from murdering the man he was shaking and he was going crazy the officers couldn’t tell anything and after murdering the man and getting away with it drive him crazy so he admitted to killing him to make it all stop.
