The struggle between certainty and doubt is the ultimate choice and feeling you have on a decision, yourself, or others. The choice is not so finite; it could lay anywhere in between the two. The perspectives of William Lyon Phelps and Bertrand Russell are antithetical to each other, but their views are on differing topics as well. Phelps implies that you must have certainty in yourself in order to complete and defeat any task in the way. On the other hand, Russell mentions that the views or opinion you encounter should never be completely accepted and a minute amount of doubt shall always be infused with your thoughts. I believe some amount of certainty is needed in areas where you are relying on that in order to complete a task or to trust

As argued in the literary work Walden by Henry David Thoreau, you must question the world; you must wake up. If I believed everything that I was told, I would be following the the herds of people on the same beaten path. One of the most debated topics and endless theories of why the world is here is religion; many rely on religion as a foundation of their lives whether it be Christianity, Judaism, Buddhism or countless of the other choices. Many religious followers hate to admit that there is no guaranteed certainty in religion; its teachings, scriptures, and tales are filled with doubt, because of this doubt we are able to choose: the greatest freedom of all. People are allowed to decipher what they believe with certainty and what they doubt; they mold their own morals and beliefs into their own religion or follow a noted one that fits them best. With an open mind that never consumes immediately will allow you to adapt philosophies into your own person paradigm, while acknowledging others. I have always perceived that the world is never assured with complete certainty or doubt and that it the adventure of it. We are able to experience it as we grow and learn.
