Comparing Codes of Ethics The very nature of the counseling profession places professional counselors in close proximity with people, information, and influence. Due to this, ethical dilemmas can arise throughout the course of this work. To help aid in the protection of counselors, and to provide a framework for ethical practice, ethical codes have been developed and instituted within the profession. As Beuchamp and Childress stated (as cited in Calley, 2009), “in the counseling profession, ethical standards are required to protect clients, guide professional behavior, ensure the autonomy of professionals, increase the status of the profession, enhance the client 's and the community 's trust in the profession, and articulate collegial conduct between professionals,” (p. 476).…

Professional Counselors and Evidence Based Practice Student’s Name Institution Professional Counselors and Evidence Based Practice For a long time, there has been a debate in the counseling world with regards to evidence and non-evidence based practice. Each of the practice has its own unique way of achieving best results while on the other hand each has limitations. I enjoyed last two week's readings from the book"The New Christian Counselor" and listening all video lectures, seemed very new biblical and transformational approach in the field of Christian counseling. The counseling practice and treatment is significantly secularized today, though a higher portion…

The purpose of this essay is to compare and contrast modernism and post-modernism in the context of counseling theory and methodology. Although counseling came about on the foundation of a modern worldview, society now embraces a predominantly post-modern culture. Some counseling theorists recognized this shift in culture and developed postmodern theories of counseling. In this essay, I describe the impact of these worldviews as they relate to the counseling profession. I examine similarities and differences between modernism and post-modernism in the areas of language, research, and client-counselor relationships.…
