We start the book to more of an indirect characterization of The Director when he is walking the college students through a tour of the D.H.C. Through this tour we can learn about how The Director is so very proud of his work and how he even may see himself like a god in a way. The quote ““Ninety-six identical twins working ninety-six identical machines!” The voice was almost tremulous with enthusiasm.” shows his passion for the system. Pretty quickly we can see that he is very proud of this system that has been created. Some more direct characterization can be seen through the quote “Tall and rather thin but upright, the Director advanced into the room. He had a long chin and big rather prominent teeth, just covered, when he was talking, by his full, floridly curved lips.” which also can support my theory of how he feels he is so far above others. I see this helping the idea because we now know he's this tall towering person which gives me the feeling a of godly like man. The next character I want to talk about is Lenina. Pretty quickly again we learn about how Lenina can seem as a self conscious person and how she seems like she is very caught up in her personal imagine. One of the multiple reasons for this can be seen a couple pages into chapter 3 when Lenina is talking to Fanny about how she “ought to have [her] first Pregnancy Substitute at seventeen.” and that she thinks “[she’s] really two years late, not two years early” When Fanny tries to suggest that she doesn’t need it yet.
