Throughout the novel “The Sun Also Rises,” by Ernest Hemingway, the characters are often represented as “lost” both mentally and physically, in negative and positive ways. This is evident when Brett announces, “I won’t be one of those bitches,” exclaiming that she is finally coming to realize who she wants to be and what she wants from a man(247). This is negative because she was “lost” and was abusing her self-worth proving that she was physically misusing her body, but mentally she thought she was smart enough to not be “one of those bitches.” The main character Jake however, was “lost” in a positive way as he thinks to himself, “It felt strange to be in France again. There was a safe, suburban feeling,” explaining that Jake felt comfort…

Throughout the series of “Dorothy Must Die” by Danielle Paige readers have to really use their brains for certain situations such as figuring out which characters are good and which are evil. Although there are many good examples of this within the book, Ozma, Dorothy and Polychrom are 3 of the best examples of how deep the reader really has to look into the characters. A character the readers might be fooled by is the character and ruler of Oz, Ozma. In the first book, Dorothy Must Die, Ozma stumbles upon Amy when she is disguised as the maid, Astrid, in the emerald city, more specifically in Dorothy’s castle and home (Paige 180).…
In the movie the Wizard of Oz, the is one dynamic character that doesn’t have change throughout the movie, that person is the Scarecrow. He was his same clumsy self throughout the whole movie. Like, for example, when dorothy first found him he was stuck on the pole and he could not get down. When she did finally get him down, he was super clumsy and kept falling all over and could not stand up straight even if he tried. After they kept walking he did keep tripping and falling but he did finally find some of his balance.…
The Babadook: Child 's Play Gone Wrong Is the monster in the closet or under the bed? Or is the monster really in the head? Finding a good horror movie can be challenging, due to the fact that most horror movies these days seem rather cliché or just don 't have an antagonist worth being scared over. Horror movies have lost their charm over the years as many horror movies seem too predicable or their script is badly written.…
Nearly everyone has heard, if not read for themselves, the story of “Hansel and Gretel”. The story of two young kids lost in the woods, who get captured by a witch, and ultimately escape. Since my ending of my last production I was eager to start our new musical. One evening after school musical practice finally started. Exhausted after class, I grudgingly sat down around the piano while I waited to the music to start and practice to begin. At 3 o’clock we began to learn our required songs for our audition. Our school play is the Wizard of Oz and I decided that I wanted to audition for Dorothy, the Tin Man, and the Good Witch.…

Fairytales and folklore have been told for thousands of years to entertain and to teach. However, the roots behind these make-believe stories are not always so innocent. In the fairytale Jack and the Beanstalk, some people may argue that Jack is only a young boy who is trying to provide for his family. In reality, Jack is a thief and a killer who shows no remorse because of his greed for money and desire to be accepted by his mother. Jack stole from the Giant multiple times, blindly robbed and killed in an attempt to earn his mother’s love and manipulated situations for his own gain – all without feeling any guilt or regret.…
In the movie, The Wizard of Oz, the protagonist is Dorothy and the antagonist is Dorothy herself and her not appreciating home and what she has. The type of conflict is person versus self. The actual problem is that Dorothy wants to go “over the rainbow” or she isn’t seeing and appreciating what she has. She is blind to her blessings. The reader sees this in the initial incident when she is worried about Toto and Ms Gulch, she is singing about some faraway place where all her problems will be solved.…
To begin, the settings portrayed in the wonderful wizard of oz are important yet often overlooked. The book begins in Kansas where Dorothy Gale and her family resides. Kansas is depicted as a 'great gray prairie'. Everything in Kansas is perceived as gray, therefore representing oneness because there is no differentiation, there is no beautiful lie hiding the truth in that place. There is only one place where there is only truth, and that is nirvana.…
