However, In the United States, many people hide (or try to hide) books in their homes. Despite the close attention payed by the firemen, many people are successful in doing so. If I lived in this civilization, I would be one of these rebels and try to hide books. And even if I got caught I would try to have a secret stash that they won’t be able to find with all of the important books such as To Kill a Mockingbird and Romeo and Juliet. Some of the hiding places I would use are in a freezer wrapped in aluminum foil so they think it’s food or inside the screen of a television (Gordon.) In Brave New World, punishments are much more severe even if the felony is less major. For example, when Bernard emphasized he didn’t agree with the ways of civilization by simply voicing his opinion, the Director threatened to exile him to Iceland. Consequences are less harsh in the US, hence I would prefer to live there where I can attempt to conceal
