Zebra Fish Essay

This experiment is purposely to study the effect of the concentration of the chemical solution on the heartbeat of the zebrafish larva. There are many advantages in using the zebrafish as the model organism. According to Gore, Monzo, Cha, Pan and Weinstein (2012), the zebrafish is commonly used as the model system of the vertebrate as it has small in size and also have the rapid development in their life. This is one of the reason of the chosen of the zebrafish as the excellent model organisms that widely being used in studying the blood and also the lymphatic vascular development (Gore et al., 2012). The transparency of the zebrafish, especially during the larvae stages allow the visualization of the circulatory system in detail. So, the uses of the zebrafish in the experiment is very suitable.
The chemical solution used in this experiment is the 1% coffee solution and the 2% coffee solution. The function of this coffee solution is to determine the differences in the heart rate (heartbeat) of the zebrafish. There is a declined reading of the larva heartbeat in the 1% coffee solution from the normal embryo solution that previously conducted. This abnormal observation of the larva heart rate may cause by the presence of the caffeine contamination in the environment of the larva fish. So, the physiological process of the larva zebrafish already being affected by the caffeine. Negrete (n.d.) stated that zebrafish that is exposed to the coffee solution which contained the caffeine cause the deformities and abnormalities of the embryo itself.
